Thoughts on Murphy

Naturally, the fact that Murphy has been diagnosed with PRA is positive news for the research study and those who will benefit from it. God willing, PRA will eventually become a thing of the past. However, personally for Murphy, the diagnosis isn't positive. Thankfully, we knew what to expect from the beginning. Mentally and emotionally we were prepared for the worst case scenario: a diagnosis of PRA. We will at least, be able to help Murphy make the transition from sight to blindness as smooth as possible. Unlike many other dog owners, we have advanced warning of what is to come.

Some people may wonder if we have regrets about adopting a dog who now has PRA. Well, if it weren't for the "Meagle" PRA breeding, we would never have been blessed with such a wonderful addition to our family. We owe the PRA Committee a big "THANK YOU" for allowing us to adopt Murphy. I can assure everyone, sighted or blind, Murphy will always be loved and cherished. He is our pride and joy.

Murphy will continue to enjoy "going for a ride" in the car, rough-housing with his best buddies (Maggie, our Lab mix; and Molly, our black Lab), getting into the trash, dropping bits of dog food all over the kitchen, barking his head off outdoors, hogging the bed, and being spoiled rotten for many years to come. If anything, once he goes blind, he will garner even more attention!
